Assignment

This lesson works towards Assignment 11. Please access the Assignment for details about what you will need to submit to your Wolsey Hall tutor.

What to Get Ready

Collect together the poems your student has been looking at during Steps 31 – 33. You may also like to include other poems your student has read and enjoyed.

Phonics

Over the next three steps, your phonics activities will be personalised revision activities for your student.

All the instructions are included on the 📄 Daily Phonics Activities sheet.

Reading - Introduction

OS 5.pngLook back with your student at the selection of poems you have collected together. Talk with them about their favourites.

Explain to your student that today they will be given time to choose a favourite poem and to read it for their assignment.  Their Wolsey Hall tutor will be looking out for them reading like a real storyteller using expression in their voice.

Reading - Main Activity

Allow your student time to read through the poem a few times and challenge them to see how much of it they can learn off by heart.

Are there any words they are finding tricky? If there are, practise repeating the lines containing these words many times.

Ask your student to think if any parts of the poem should be said louder? Or quieter? Mark these places on the poem and give your student time to practise.

Ask your student think if there is a point in the poem where it would be good to pause?

See if your student can think of some actions to go with their poem - this will help them to learn it off by heart (as much as possible!)

When your student is ready, turn on your recording device and film them performing the poem.

See if they can learn as much of it as possible off by heart as this is, in part, what your Wolsey Hall tutor will comment on.

This will be submitted as Assignment 11.
