Today's Lesson

What to Get Ready

10b.pngPrint out a new copy of the 📄 Instructions Planning Sheet. Your student will use this to write the final copy of their instructions.

Introduction

Explain to your student that writers will rewrite things many times to make sure it is their best work.

Explain that today they will be writing their instructions again but making them even better.

Together look through their completed Instructions Planning Sheet. Check each sentence with your student using the 📄 Sentence Checklist.

Mark any corrections you both spot in coloured pen on the sheet.

Ask your student to look through the completed Instructions Planning Sheetand to show you which letters they have formed the best. Together choose one letter they need to improve. On a spare piece of paper, help your student practise forming that letter.

Writing

5c.pngYour student now needs to write up the final copy of their instructions. They also need to complete the drawings of each step.

Encourage them to write slowly and to concentrate on their letter formations.

Extra Support

6a.pngIf your student needs extra support with spelling a word, first ask them to say the word slowly. Ask them, ‘What is the first sound you can hear?’ then, ‘What is the last sound you can hear?’ and, ‘Can you hear any other sounds in the middle?’

You could encourage them to use their 📄 Alphabet Mat to help them to spot the sounds they can hear, but do not tell them the letters/sounds they need. It does not matter if spellings are incorrect.
