Assignment
This lesson works towards Assignment 9. Please access the Assignment for details about what you will need to submit to your Wolsey Hall tutor.
Introduction
Read a book your student knows well but read it aloud badly.
For example, whisper, stumble on words, look at the floor.
Then read it again out loud, this time with confidence and expression.
Compare the two readings.
Ask:
- Which one was more interesting?
- Which one was easier to listen to?
Main Activity
Explain to your student that they will rehearse a performance of their book during today’s session. This will be recorded and uploaded as part of Assignment 9.
Together, read through 📄 A Perfect Performance of My Story. Explain that there are different ways of reading and when you are reading aloud to an audience, you need to read slowly, with expression, look up at the audience, and so on.
If you have family members who are available, encourage them to be an audience and sit near the video recording device when you record the performance.
Ask your student to read their story several times according to the rules of 📄 A Perfect Performance of My Story. Praise them for their efforts and encourage them to have another go until they are ready to record their performance for their tutor and Assignment 9.
What to Notice
While they are doing this activity, remember to praise your student for the skills they are using.
For example:
‘Your efforts have paid off! You are reading clearly and with expression. Your tutor will love to hear your Pigeon story. Well done!’
Upload this recording for Assignment 9.
