Main Activity

Tell your student that today they will be reading a poem they have not seen before. The poem is called 📄 ‘I’d Like To Be a Worm’****.

They will need to use their Reading Tips to help them - you may want to recap these using the sheet from the 📄 Poetry Pack.

Video your student reading the poem ‘I’d Like to be a Worm’.

Once you have done this, you may want to read the poem to your student, correct any words they did not read correctly the first time and ask them to read it again.

Tell your student that they will be learning this poem off by heart and adding the performance skills they have been thinking about in Step 8. For example:

  • interesting use of different voices
  • emphasis on certain words
  • use of facial expressions
  • use of sound effects
  • use of movements or actions.
