Cambridge Primary Science Book 4 | Lined paper | Water | Cooker | Freezer

Today's Lesson

Main Activity

You may wish to watch the following video which will introduce the concept of changes of state.

Turn to pages 58–59 in Cambridge Primary Science Book 4.

Read the text about melting and discuss this with your child.

Then look at β€˜Think like a scientist 1’ on page 59 together. Read the text carefully, then help your child to conduct the experiment.

Water is a substance which we can readily convert between the three states of matter.

At room temperature, most substances exist either as a solid or a liquid. Many gases can be liquefied and then frozen solid (encourage your child to use the internet to look up uses for liquid nitrogen or solid carbon dioxide - dry ice), which is often a difficult and expensive process.
