Main Activity
Look at the first slide of the Favelas PowerPoint. It looks like a nice area to live, doesnβt it? Now look at the second slide. Does this change what you think of the area?
Work through the rest of the PowerPoint with your student, stopping to watch the video.
WATCH β Life in the Favela of Rochina (BBC)
Then ask your student to cut out the cards and complete the card sorting activity.
Your student should now be able to write at least five negative things about life in the favela and three positive things.
Challenge Activity
Most cities in poorer countries have slums. Can your student find out where the world's biggest slum settlements are? They could use the Internet for research, or a library if you have access to one nearby.
