Today's Lesson

Main Activity

10c.pngAsk your student: When was the last time you saw snow? How much did you get? Was it fun to play in?

Snow can be great fun but too much snow can be dangerous, especially if you are stuck outside, for example, in a traffic jam or on a mountain side.

Read the Blizzards PowerPoint together and also watch the video clips at the end.

WATCH - 48 hour Time-Lapse of Blizzard (YouTube)

Your student's task for today is to complete a piece of creative writing imagining that they are stuck outside in a blizzard. First they will need to decide where exactly they are stuck, for how long and what equipment, if any, they have with them. The piece of writing could be a story, a poem or a diary entry. If they need any extra help, they can look at the sheet Blizzard Sentence Starters.

Encourage your student to try to include realistic information on the weather conditions and to describe how it feels to be stuck out in them.

Challenge Activity

2c.pngIf you have time, your student could write or type up a neat version of their writing and illustrate it.
