Today's Lesson

Introduction

Look at an online world map or an atlas and discuss some of the countries that your student may know of.

Talk about how weather is different in different countries. Find some countries that have very different weather to that of your own.

Discuss:

  • How far away are these countries from ours?
  • How would we get there?
  • What is the weather (usually) like there?

Talk about the different sort of clothes we need for different weather. Look at the clothes we are wearing now. What sort of weather are our clothes good for? Hot, cold, wet, dry?

Main Activity

Ask your student to pretend they are going to visit three different countries with very different weather to each other. They would need to be ready for these weathers with the clothes they have. Look at pictures of different clothes on the internet that might be suitable. (An effective search, for example, is ‘clothes for weather’ and then select ‘Images’ – show your student the search results as they come up on the screen, and look through the various images in order to provoke discussion).

Ask your student to draw themselves in these different countries, wearing the clothes that they will need to cope with the weather there.

Quiz

PRACTISE - Step 18, 19 and 20 Quiz

*All quizzes on this course are optional, they do not count towards your student’s grade.  If you decide to do them, they are a chance to explore your student's understanding of different topics.

If your student finds reading tricky, you can read them the questions.

If your student is unsure of an answer, talk with them about their ideas.  You can also look back at previous lessons together.*
