Today's Lesson

What to Get Ready

Ahead of this lesson, collect some toys, including some that are powered by electricity (either batteries or plugs).

Introduction

Ask your student to sort the toys into those that use electricity and those that do not. Talk about, and explain that electricity can produce different effects, such as make the toys move, light up or make sounds. Then talk about which items use electricity in your home.

What do you have in your bedroom that needs electricity? (e.g. lamp, light, clock)

What electrical objects have you used so far today? (e.g. electric toothbrush, toaster, kettle)

Do all electrical things need to be plugged in? (No, some have batteries)

Main Activity

Ask your student to go on an electrical object hunt around your home. Ask your student to record what they find, by drawing all the objects that use electricity.

Extra Support

If your student is finding this tricky, support them to find items that are plugged in around the home.

Extra Challenge

If your student is ready for an extra challenge, ask them to label their pictures with what the electricity does to the object, e.g. light, heat, movement etc.
