What is Learning Support?
At Wolsey Hall Oxford, we want all our students to fulfil their true potential, including those with additional needs. Homeschooling allows you to work at your own pace, without the pressures of a conventional school environment.Β The Learning Support Team has a wealth of strategies and advice to help support students who struggle due to issues with motivation, focus or medical conditions such as ADHD or OCD. Many students will achieve academic success if they have the right support systems in place.Β We can advise on a wide range of additional needs from how to support your left handed or dyslexic student to encouraging writing or managing anxiety.Β We can offer one to one sessions which can be easily booked online β just contact your SPM for more information.
To find out more about the Learning Support Service read the Frequently Asked Questions.
Upon enrolment all homeschooling students have access to the Support for Learning Course on Canvas. Within this area there is a wealth of information and resources to help learners - providing great tips and strategies for success. The course is crafted to meet the various needs of our homeschooling community, offering a treasure trove of resources and guidance on key topics from goals setting to beating barriers to learning. We've also put together an amazing resource directory packed with tools to tackle learning hurdles across various areas, including:

Immersive reader
All our courses on Canvas have an 'immersive reader' function.Β This function, if you decide to use it, will allow you to:
- change the font size;
- highlight elements in a sentence (such as verbs, nouns, adjectives and sub-clauses);
- split words into syllables;
- change the font (choose between two sizes);
- listen to the text being read aloud and change the speed of reading;
- highlight lines.
The function is designed to support students with dyslexia, dysgraphia or partial sight, but it can also support anyone who wants to make reading on their device easier.Β Please note that this function will only work on Canvas materials and not on PDF documents (e.g. assignments).
This video explains more about the Immersive Reader.
